The Libby High School was locked down Thursday morning while local law enforcement investigated a threat of violence on social media.

According to a press release from Libby Police Chief Cody Ercanbrack, the Libby Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:45 a.m. from Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Student Resource Officer in Gallatin County advised the police department that a student had threatened violence on social media. The student was originally identified as attending Libby High School. Officers from Libby and the county responded to the high school to investigate and protect the students.

The school administration put the school into a lockdown to secure the students. The Libby Police Department worked with Libby Superintendent of Schools Ron Goodman and Principal Germany in coordinating our efforts to ensure the safety of the students.

Officers and detectives secured the high school while deputies investigated the possible suspect.

“Our cooperating agencies across the state confirmed that our students were not at risk, when they confirmed the social media account belonged to a student in Gallatin County,” Ercanbrack said in the release.

At 11:08 a.m., the school administration was notified that there was no threat to Libby Schools and the lockdown was lifted.

The teaching staff responded quickly and without hesitation in securing their rooms to protect their students.

“As always, the safety of our children is our highest priority, we will always investigate threats to the schools completely and without delay. The Libby Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office appreciate our school administrators who take the safety of their students so seriously,” Ercanbrack said. “We are grateful for their cooperation and willingness to help with the investigations of all threats.”
