Greenchain Little Guy wrestlers head to Arlee for Intervalley
The Western Montana Little Guy wrestling season has rounded the corner and the Greenchain is in the final stretch.
The Unit 1 qualifier was hosted by the Flathead Valley Wrestling Club March 9 in Kalispell at the Expo Center. Libby Wrestling Club did well! Just the tournament being considered a qualifier somehow amps up the enthusiasm at the venue and LWC matched that energy on Saturday.
LWC coaches sense the team is right on track and are getting better at the right time. It’s a difficult process managing a group of athletes who compete as a team, yet individually, to peak when it matters the most in this short six-week season. The outlook is good for our wrestlers.
Each weekend has been positive progression which is leading LWC into a season conclusion with big expectations.
There are only the next two weekends of the regular season for our wrestlers. Arlee is hosting the second of the qualifying tournaments known as the Unit 1 & 2 Intervalley on March 16. The final competition will be in Polson on March 23.
This weekend will be a chance for our wresters to see a different group of competition. It’s always exciting to see how Unit 1 matches up against the other teams, and from results so far, Unit 1 should do just fine. Unit 2 is comprised of Arlee, Mission/Charlo, Bigfork, Ronan and Polson.
These teams always come ready to compete so it’s fun to see it unfold and get a sense of what the final weekend will have waiting for the novice, middle and junior age groups. The peewee group officially concluded their season at the Kootenai Klassic on March 2, but FVWC found a way for them to get a little more mat time by allowing an hour of open time during the tournament last weekend.
The beginner group will have their final day of competition in Arlee as only the three older age groups continue to the next weekend.
