Monte Wicka

| March 8, 2024 7:00 AM

Monte Wicka, born and raised in Libby, Montana, died unexpectedly on Feb. 29, 2024, at the age of 71 at his home on the Kootenai River, on a leap day, unique just like him.

Monte is survived by his wife Leta, younger brothers Matt and Mark Wicka (Karen Schultz), brother-in-law Barry (wife Irene), nieces and nephews Wyatt, Justin (wife Ashley), Savanna (husband Scott), Tyson (wife Carrissa), great nephews Remington, Bensen, River, children Jason and Zak, grandchildren Jordan (Helaina), Taylor (husband Johnny), Barret, Canyon, Halle, Kate, Paisley, Hudson, and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and former coworkers.

Monte lived life to the fullest, a true Libby man who loved hunting, fishing, outdoors, golf, Taekwondo, wrestling, watching his grandkids, family, coffee with the boys, Schnack-N-Decker Lumber Company, many years of firefighting and working for the Forest Service.

He loved country music and Western movies (where he was a savant in knowing every actor and actress life stories). He relished in zinging the ones he loved and you knew you were well liked if he gave you a hard time that left you laughing.

He relished doing anything anyone believed he couldn’t do. He defied the odds and never stopped challenging himself and those around him.

He was the best of the best in morals, values and love for his friends and family.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at the Libby Christian Church on Kootenai River Road, followed by a final earthly retirement at 2933 Upper Granite Creek on his family’s land next to his world renowned hunting dogs.

Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, Montana. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
