Local first responders tended to a man who reportedly wounded himself Monday evening in an accidental shooting.

According to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the dispatch center received a request at 7:16 p.m. Monday for emergency medical assistance at a residence on U.S. 2 near mile marker 37.

The caller reported that an adult male at the residence had accidentally shot himself in the lower leg while handling a pistol.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies and Libby Chief of Police Cody Ercanbrack responded to assist. Officers applied a tourniquet to the patient’s leg.

The man was later transported by Libby Volunteer Ambulance to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies determined that no crime had been committed, the firearm discharge was accidental and the wound was self-inflicted.

No further inquiry is being conducted.
