A transient man originally from New Jersey who is accused of starting the Gravel Pit Fire south of Libby in 2023 is still waiting on a mental health evaluation.

Joseph Anthony Eutsler, 39, who is being held on $250,000 bail in the Lincoln County Detention Center, was scheduled to go to the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs for the evaluation after District Judge Matt Cuffe granted attorney Ben Kolter's request during a hearing more than a month ago.

Kolter requested the evaluation to determine if Eutsler is able to assist and aid in his defense against two felony charges of arson. Eutsler pleaded not guilty to the charges in August 2023. Kolter told Cuffe he was behind a number of people in line for evaluations at the hospital.
