Carol B. Cooper

| March 1, 2024 7:00 AM

Carol B. Cooper was born Aug. 18, 1935, to Bonnie Prier Allen and Elmer Allen in Everett, Washington.

She peacefully passed away on Feb. 20, 2024, surrounded by family at Cabinet Peaks Hospital, Libby, Montana.

Carol was a precocious child of the Great Depression and World War II. Her family was very close, including her brother Earl Allen and sister Janice Allen Nees. Carol's predecessors were very kind and gentle people. Carol was Lutheran in faith.

In 1951, she married Herb Cooper, the love of her life. Children followed, Allen, Art, Bonnie and David.

Carol and Herb owned and operated the Sno-Valley Morgan Horse Ranch for many years, creating a long line of award-winning Morgan horses.

Carol owned a courier business; Herb and Carol owned Totem Boom Company, Inc., a log rafting and booming facility, a Puget Sound waterfront storage business, plus a lumber mill operation. She fully supported the family waterfront businesses, which included inland and ocean-going tug boat operators, booming and rafting.

Carol and Herb actively supported 4-H youth activities and were members of the Bits & Spurs Horseback Riding Club. They enjoyed riding the Cascade Crest Trail, plus many horseback riding adventures and competitions, hunting, lake and ocean fishing.

Carol enjoyed a 68-year bowling career. At a bowling banquet, Bobbie Marken of Trojan Lanes and USBC representative, Nicci Savage presented Carol a "Most Valuable Player Elite Bowling Award"  for her dedication to the sport, as well as longevity. Having been a very good bowler, Carol competed at many national events, including Reno, Las Vegas and Wichita, Kansas.

A genealogist, Carol traveled to Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky and Minnesota. Combining her efforts with her aunt, mother, daughter and cousins, she extended a rich written history for her family, which includes her distant cousin, President James Madison, author of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Most important to Carol was her family. A matriarch, she fully supported and uplifted her family and many others. Truly, her home was open to all.

Predeceased by her husband, Herb, her sister, Janice (Bob) Nees, and brother, Earl (Harriet) Allen, Carol remained a very active family mentor. A few days before her passing, she said, "I wish I could keep my family with me forever."

She leaves four children, Allen, Art (Cristita), David Cooper and Bonnie Larson. Her grandchildren, Jermiah, Harley, Jessica, Allee and Tallen, Herb, James and Lloyd, Dawn and Kristine, Stacy, Jennifer, Kerri, and Dawn T., and great-grandchildren Seilah, Josiah, Aja, Ever, Areia, Sunny, Dean, Mia, Grace and Rowen, Bradley and Cory, Celeste and Alyssa, Breanna and Sean, Sam, Alex, David and Nicole, Andrew and Devin, Victoria and Madeline. Celebrating five generations, she leaves Eli, Felix, Oliver and Juuleum.

All in-laws are deeply appreciated as the valuable part of the family they have become.

With each generation, she saw promise. Many family members and friends include Gilbert, John, James, Cathleen, Karla, and Dean and Diane.

A true matriarch, Carol was an expression of unconditional love, support and guidance.

Life incorporates a village. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to all that brightened her life.
