Rosalie Reed
Rosalie Reed, 90, a lifetime resident of Libby, Montana, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, at the Libby Care Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1933, to Ella (St. Arnaud) and George Johnson. She was the ninth of 10 children, joining Albert, Clarence, Bennett, Angeline, Florine, Evelyn, Lorraine, Catherine and later Robert.
She remained in Libby and graduated from Libby High School in 1951. She married Bill Ingrum in 1953, who came to Libby from Columbia, Missouri to work for the U.S. Forest Service.
They had four children: Rodney, Lynn, Lisa and Anthony Glenn. Bill began working for J. Neils (later to be St. Regis and Champion) and during this time Rosalie loved being active in her church (St. Joseph Catholic Church) and community.
She was a Girl Scout leader, member of PTA and city council. She loved working as the school secretary at the new junior high school from 1970 to 1975. Through the years she was the city clerk, worked for Dr. Brus, Gene’s Pharmacy and Libby Floral.
Rosalie and Bill loved the outdoors and taking their family on drives and hikes in the mountains, picking huckleberries, hunting, fishing, swimming in the lakes, picnics and gatherings with family and friends. Bill passed away in 1990.
Years later she was reintroduced to a friend from her younger high school years, Jerry South, and they were married until he passed away from lung cancer. A childhood friend, Jack Reed, began taking Mom to lunch and they soon married, enjoying the outdoors and friends before he passed eight years later.
Rosalie is survived by her daughters Lynn (Bill) Melton of Oklahoma and Lisa (Steve) Stancher of Whitefish, Montana; daughters-in-law: Julie (Rod) Ingrum of Idaho and Sandee (Glenn) Ingrum of Washington; five grandchildren: Nicole (Nate) Pieren, Jennifer (Manual) Rios, Andrea Wagner, Adam Melton and Ross Stancher; six great-grandchildren: Madison, Brysin, Brody, Rachael, Elise and Zeagan; her brother Robert Johnson and sister Evelyn Poling both of Libby; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, siblings and her sons Rodney and Glenn Ingrum. Rosalie spent her last years at the Libby Care Center and we are thankful to all the doctors, nurses, CNAs and staff for all the wonderful and loving care of Mom she received while there.
Graveside Service will be held at the Libby Cemetery at noon Thursday June 20, 2024, followed by a luncheon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
