Superfund site will be addressed at Libby open house

People in and around the Libby area are encouraged to attend an open house regarding activities at the Libby Asbestos Superfund site and wildfire response planning scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, in the Ponderosa Room at the Libby City Building.

Representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service, Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Lincoln County Public Health Department, Lincoln County Asbestos Resource Program and W.R. Grace will be on hand to meet with attendees and answer questions pertaining to this season's asbestos Superfund projects and the most recent version of the Libby Asbestos Response Plan, a multi-agency plan for responding to a wildfire in the former mine area.

The EPA and W.R. Grace plan to offer information on the status of the vermiculite mine site. DEQ and Asbestos Resource Program representatives will be on hand to discuss ongoing operations and maintenance within the Superfund site. USFS and the county health department will provide information on actions happening this season, Libby Asbestos Response Plan updates and general site wildfire preparedness.

The Ponderosa Room is located at 952 Spruce Street. Participants will be able to meet and greet members of the project teams, ask questions and receive the most up-to-date information on this season's projects. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
