Rough sledding for Libby basketball teams in Northwest A

The Libby boys and girls basketball teams have experienced rough sledding in Northwest A play.

Thursday, both squads fell to Bigfork.

The boys lost, 70-35, at home while the girls suffered a 73-17 defeat in Bigfork.

The boys dropped to 2-9 and 0-5 in Northwest A.

The Vikings (5-7, 3-3) were hot from behind the 3-point line with seven.

The Loggers led 10-8 with 3:13 left in the first quarter following a putback by Alderic Martineau. Talan Glenn-Woody, who scored six points, hit a 3-pointer and Ryan Beagle rolled in a 3 to help get the short-lived lead.

Bigfork answered with a quarter-ending 11-2 run in the final three minutes. Back-to-back steals by Elijah Thorness led to baskets for the Vikings in a 7-0 run that forced Libby head coach Josh Bean to call timeout.

Chayse Hartley hit two free throws for Libby with 1:18 left to cut the Bigfork lead to three points, 15-12. But the Vikings scored the last four points, including a putback by Colin Wade with four seconds left to make it 19-12.

Logger senior Tyler Andersen hit two free throws and scored on a putback with 4:05 left in the second quarter to keep the Loggers within six points, 24-18.

Bigfork called timeout with 4:03 left and went on a 12-2 run to take a 16-point lead at halftime, 36-20.

Andersen tried to keep the Loggers in the game in the third when he scored the first four points to make it 36-24.

But Bigfork had a 12-0 run in the next few minutes to make it 48-24 at the 4:29 mark.

Andersen led the Loggers with 12 points. Glenn-Woody scored six points while Hartley and Cy Williams each scored five. Beagle finished with three, Martineau and Beck had two points each.

Tuesday in Polson, the Loggers battled before losing 51-46 to the Pirates. It was Polson’s first win in Northwest A.

Tyler Andersen led Libby with 20 points while Beagle scored 11. Martineau scored six points and Williams scored four.

In Thursday’s girls game, the Valkries led Libby 22-3 after one quarter and 47-8 at halftime in improving to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in Northwest A.

Rylee Delmas led Libby with five points. Ellie Andreessen scored four, Madison Vincent and Addy Gilden-Vincent each had three points and Jossalyn White scored two.

Libby fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in conference.

Tuesday in Polson, the Pirates won 44-39 and improved to 6-6.

Libby led 10-9 after one quarter but Polson outscored the Loggers 20-11.

Madison Vincent had a game-high 19 points for Libby, including nine in the fourth quarter when she hit two of her four 3-pointers.

Jossalyn White scored eight points, Rachel Kosters had six and Addy Gilden-Vincent had five.

Saturday, Libby played in Ronan. A buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Ronan's Tayen Edmo gave the Chiefs a 61-58 win over the Loggers. 

Libby’s Tyler Andersen led all scorers with 24 points, including four 3-pointers for the Loggers (2-10, 0-6 in Northwest A). Beagle scored 10 points while Alderic Martineau had nine and Cy Williams scored eight. Tristan Andersen had five points while Chayse Hartley scored two.

In the girls game, the Maidens led 26-4 at halftime on the way to a 44-21 win.

The Maidens are 6-7 overall and 3-4 in Northwest A. Libby fell to 1-11 and 0-6.

Jossalyn White scored a team-high six points for the Loggers while Rylee Delmas had five. Kaydence Stanek and Addy Gilden-Vincent each scored four and Madison Vincent had two.

Last night, the boys hosted Whitefish while the girls team played on the road. Thursday, the boys host Columbia Falls at 5:45 p.m. while the girls play on the road. Saturday, Libby hosts Polson with the boys varsity at 4:15 p.m. and the girls at 5:45 p.m.
