Local churches ushered in the New Year by gathering, Jan. 5-6 for corporate worship and prayer at Kootenai Valley Christian School.

More than 100 people of all ages participated, representing at least 13 churches from Libby, Troy and Eureka.

The annual prayer event was held between the hours of 6 p.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The theme for 2024 prayer was “Sons & Daughters,” based on Joel 2:28, “...I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh, your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”

Pastor Zane Officer, Chairman of the Libby Evangelical Association of Pastors (LEAP), opened with a strong message defining our unity in Christ, as context for the coming hours of prayer which focused on seeking God’s sovereign protection, guidance and blessing over our children and grandchildren.

Those who gathered prayed for comfort and strength for all who are grieving a recent suicide and asked for divine intervention in bringing parents and children together in healthy, productive relationships and purpose.

Petitions were made for insight into solid strategies for cultivating strong connections, communication and cooperation between the generations, resulting in one generation of faith.

Hundreds of names were written on a prayer wall banner with youth and young adults leading in worship and prayer while also speaking about their spiritual journeys.

The event was sponsored by His Unified Body and by LEAP.
