Seasons over for Libby, Troy basketball squads

South Lincoln County's basketball teams saw their respective seasons end recently in play-in games in Classes A and B.

Feb. 15 in Ronan, the Chiefs beat the Libby Loggers, 77-44. Kolby Finley scored 16 points to lead four Ronan players in double figures, and the Chiefs built a 35-22 halftime lead to stay alive in the postseason.

Finley hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Ronan (11-8) blew the game open. The Chiefs were 10 of 17 on 3-point shots.

Tyler Andersen had a game-high 17 points for Libby, which ended up 3-16. Ryan Beagle added 11 for the Loggers. Talan Glenn-Woody and Aidan Rose each scored seven and Tristan Andersen had two points.

For the Libby girls squad, it fell to Polson, 39-32.

The Lady Pirates led 27-16 before Libby went on an 11-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. 

Libby's Madison Vincent hit one 3-pointer to start the Loggers (1-18) comeback and another to cut the gap to 27-25 with 5:55 left in the game. A putback by Libby’s Bergen Fortner tied it with 5:20 remaining, but Rylee Taylor-Jefferson answered with a bucket for Polson, and McKenna Hanson stole the ensuing inbounds pass and got a free throw out of it.

Taylor-Jefferson’s 3-pointer with 1:38 left put Polson up 35-29. She had 20 points. 

Vincent scored 12 for Libby. Rylee Delmas had seven points, Rachel Kosters scored six, Kaydence Stanek had five and Fortner tallied two.

For Troy, its boys team lost twice in the 7-B Tournament. On Feb. 13, the Trojans iost to Plains, 59-45, and on Feb. 17, they lost to Mission, 54-51.

For the girls, Eureka beat Troy, 64-2, on Feb. 13 and on Feb. 17, lost to Plains, 48-26.
