The Troy boys and girls basketball teams ended last week with three games at home and honored their seniors on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at the Troy Activity Center against Thompson Falls.

While the contests against TFalls weren’t necessarily memorable for the result, Trojans faithful cheered the senior members as they played their final games on John Konzen Court.

They included, from the girls squad, Sarah Rogers, and from the boys team, Derek Cole, Rowyn Shupe, Nathin Sentell and Braxton Yeadon.

In a great gesture of sportsmanship, the senior members of the Thompson Falls boys team were also recognized. They included Nick Tessier, Cael Thilmony, Braxton Dorscher, Justin Haagenson, Max Hannum, Kein Thomas and Theo Nygaard. The Lady Hawks 2023-24 team does not have any seniors.

The girls lost their game, 68-10, while the boys fell, 44-29. The Trojan boys did come back and beat Alberton, 62-42, on Friday.

Troy dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 21-0. Carson Orr’s 23 points led Troy. Brody Kelso netted 11 points, Kempton Sloan added seven while Rowyn Shupe and Nolan Morris chipped in with six points apiece.

Against the Blue Hawks, the visitors jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never trailed. Junior Kempton Sloan got the Trojans on the board with 2:41 left in the first quarter. Cole’s reverse layup got the crowd going at the 1:31 mark, Emerson Downey scored and a free throw by Orr with 29 seconds left trimmed the TFalls lead to five points, 12-7, at the end of the first.

Scoring was sparse for both teams in the second quarter and the score was 16-12 at halftime. Orr scored three and Downey added the other basket for Troy.

In the third quarter, the Blue Hawks used a 6-0 run to begin and took their first double-digit lead, 22-12.

In the girls contest, the Lady Hawks led 11-0 after one quarter and 20-0 in the second before Kirsti Jellesed’s basket got the Lady Trojans on the scoreboard. Addyson Fisher added two 3-pointers in the third for Troy.

Both teams are scheduled to begin District 7-B play Tuesday.
