Loggers girls basketball rolls to first win over Stevensville

The Libby Loggers girls basketball won its first game of the 2024-25 season Friday, routing Stevensville, 59-21.

There wasn’t much drama against the Yellowjackets after Stevensville led 4-2 about two-and-one-half minutes into the game.

Libby (1-3) used a 9-0 run to close the first quarter with an 11-4 lead. 

Sophomore Leah Rusdal started the comeback with a free throw, then she made a steal, which led to a basket by Hadleigh Wood for a 5-4 lead.

Madison Vincent hit a free throw, then Rusdal scored off a good pass by Rachel Kosters. A free throw by Wood with 41 seconds left made it 9-4. Kosters capped the quarter with an offensive rebound and putback to make it 11-4.

Libby dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Yellowjackets 19-5.

Rylee Delmas hit two free throws and Kaydence Stanek scored. Kosters hit a jumper from the baseline with 5:35 left for a 19-5 lead. Vincent buried a 3-pointer with 4:48 left for a 22-6 lead.

A drive to the basket by Wood made it 28-6 and Peyton Waggoner’s jumper made it 30-6 with 32 seconds left.

The Loggers are off until traveling to Bonners Ferry on Jan. 7.
