Greenchain claim second at Kinney Classic

The Libby Loggers Greenchain head into tonight’s Battle of the Kootenai with another second-place tournament finish.

The Greenchain were runners-up to their foe at Libby Middle High School - Eureka.

The Lions scored 174.5 points while Libby had 151.5 at the 12-team Bob Kinney Classic in Superior. Corvallis was third with 141.5 points while Florence was fourth with 113.5 and Plains/Hot Springs was fifth with 111.5.

Arlee was sixth, followed by Mission/Charlo, Whitefish, Bigfork, Stevensville, Deer Lodge and Thompson Falls.

The Greenchain had one champion in 110-pounder Tristin Rogers and five other placewinners.

Rogers had two byes into the finals where he pinned Bigfork’s Callen Ballard in 3:17.

At 138 pounds, Nicholas Campbell (4-1) placed third. He scored a 17-1 tech fall over Corvallis’ Byron Stoker, then pinned Shelby’s Parker Bushnell in 1:23.

He fell in the semifinals before rallying for two wins, including a 10-5 win over Florence’s Max Rosenthal.

At 150, Boe Miles also placed third after winning five of six matches. Miles scored a pin before getting pinned late in the quarterfinals. Miles began his winning march through the consolations with two pins.

He then won an exciting 5-3 decision in the consey semifinals over Florence’s Braden Carter before claiming his medal with a pin of Whitefish’s Carter Olson in 59 seconds.

The Greenchain had back-to-back third-place finishes from 175-pounder Tanner Wolfe and 190-pounder Ian Thom.

Wolfe’s matches were all decided by fall. In the consolations, he pinned Bigfork’s Wyatt Elwell and he took third with a pin of Eureka’s Rogan Lytle in 2:44.

For Thom, all of his matches were also decided by fall. To claim third, he decked Corvallis’ Cayde Olsen in 1:30.

At 215, Brysen Miller placed fourth after winning four of six matches. He split his first two before winning three straight, including a 6-0 decision over Eureka’s Halen Medicine Bull, an 18-3 tech fall over Eureka’s Richie Heavy Runner and a pin in 58 seconds of Deer Lodge’s Tate Smith. He lost by fall late in the second period to Darby’s Eli Spross.

Libby also had several other competitors, including Darius Williamson (0-2), Levi Nick (1-2), Jack Hayven (1-2), Riley Orr (1-2), Gabe Bassett (0-2), Bridger Bache (2-2), Jeremiah Thomas (2-2), Brayson Orr (2-2), Gabe Kosters (2-2), Tristen DeShazer (2-2), Hunter Rooney (1-2), Tucker Morgan (0-2) and Hunter Nelson (1-2).

For Eureka, they had four champions and five other placewinners.

Hunter Grieve was a champ at 126, Josh Lambertson at 150, Danial Lemer at 215 and Wes Banks at heavyweight.
