Heritage Museum not getting mixed up in bull statue situation

| August 20, 2024 7:00 AM

To the Editor:

The Board of Directors of the Heritage Museum would like to address the comments made in the “Commissioners hear proposals for J. Neils bull” article that appeared in the Thursday, July 9, 2024, edition of The Western News.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit museum serving the residents of Lincoln County and beyond, our mission statement reads: “The mission of The Heritage Museum shall be to collect, preserve, protect and interpret the history of Lincoln County for education, research, cultural enrichment and recreation for local residents and visitors of all ages.”

It is not within the scope of our mission statement to have an opinion on the removal of the bull from J. Neils Park.

Our board was made aware of Dave Harman’s position at the May 20, 2024, board meeting in the Community Input portion of the agenda, but we did not have any discussion nor take any position for or against this proposal, nor is it our intention to do so.

Sincerely,

Ericka Hardgrove, President, Heritage Museum Board of Directors
