Edward (Ed) L. Moe

| April 23, 2024 7:00 AM

Edward (Ed) L. Moe, of Libby, passed away on April 14, 2024, at the age of 89, of a coronary event.

He was the first child of four born to Ole and Matilda Moe in Kabo, Montana on Sept. 22, 1934.

Ed was raised in the Paradise Valley outside Chinook, Montana. He attended Zurich and Chinook schools, graduating in 1953. Ed entered the U.S. Navy in 1954, traveling the world and becoming an Electricians Mate Class A.

He returned to civilian life in 1958. He then attended electrician school in Chicago and upon completion he worked in Pickstown, South Dakota at Fort Randal Dam as an engineer. This is where he met his wife, Marjory Deurmier. They were married on Jan. 15, 1962, in Wagner, South Dakota.

They enjoyed almost 57 years of marriage before she passed away in January of 2019. They started their married life in Fort Peck, Montana, where he worked as an engineer for 17 years. They moved, in 1978, to Libby where he worked at Libby Dam until his retirement.

Ed and Marge were blessed with two children, Virginia and Richard.

Edward was a member of the Sons of Norway, Eagles and American Legion. Ed also worked with the Em Kayan Village Water System, where he lived for 45 years. He liked doing projects around the house and helping others with projects they had. With his engineering mind, you were sure his work would stand the test of time. Ed enjoyed music, playing several instruments, including the guitar, banjo, accordion, mandolin and more.

While living in Fort Peck, he played in a band for many years. In later years, he would play for small gatherings and at the Libby Care Center and Havre Care Center. If music was playing, you would find Ed and Marge dancing together. You could tell they had done that for many years. Their favorite past time was dancing. Ed’s daughter was able to dance with him one last time in his kitchen at Easter, just like when she was a little girl.

Edward is survived by his daughter, Virginia King of Havre; grandson, Victor and great-granddaughters, Kaylie and Ava of Havre; grandson, Aron of Inverness; son, Richard (Helen) Moe; grandsons, Travis and Trevor of Palmyra, Virginia; brother, Melvin (Kathy) Moe of Kalispell; sister, Bonnie (Ted) Fokken of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Dale Briese, who was always there for his uncle.

Also, Marjorie Snyder, who was a special friend to Ed these last few years.

Memorial services for Edward were held Monday, April 22, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church in Libby.

Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
