Perry Thomas Scott

| April 19, 2024 7:00 AM

Perry Thomas Scott went home to rest with Jesus on April 5, 2024.

Perry was presented to the world Tuesday, July 13, 1943.

He was the fourth child of eight, born to his feisty father, Maurice (Morris) Scott and his sweet as a bunny mother, Lorraine Myrtle (Larson, Scott) Shermont in Williston, North Dakota.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. His siblings were Gene, Lloyd, DeeAnn, Darryl, Leon, Norma Jean and Kristi.

The family moved to Scobey, Montana and then lived in Glasgow, Montana after that. Perry began an apprenticeship for his career as an auto body man at the tender age of 17.

After graduation, he and his brothers spent some time in Flathead County, Montana, where he met his first wife, Esther May (Miller, Scott) Spreacker, in Martin City and they had the first two of their five children, Perry Morris Scott and Shanie Sue Valenzuela.

Perry enlisted in the Montana Army National Guard for six years, receiving a honorable discharge April 13, 1970, with the rank of SP5, E-5. The young couple then moved to Kalispell, where Perry started Scott’s Body Shop, and the couple had three more children, Sharmon Sharee Cochrane, Jeremy Lynn Scott, Kimberly Kay (Moon) Perry.

Soon, their feet got itchy and the family hopped a plane to Anchorage, Alaska where Perry managed the largest auto body shop in the city. It had 25 bays. The family be-bopped around camping, fishing and hunting The Last Frontier for six years before returning to The Last Best Place (I see a pattern forming) to reside in Libby, where his parents and numerous other family members were living as well.

After the couple’s separation, Perry married a second time to Margaret (Peggy) Ann (Cook, Hoffman) Scott, and gained two stepdaughters; Christine (Hoffman) Raville, and Candi Kay (Hoffman) Mantel.

The couple bounced around the U.S., from Montana to Alaska, Washington and finally landed in Owl’s Head, New York where Peggy’s family originated and she still resides today.

He loved with all his heart and what he loved most was to have a good time! Perry was one hell of a storyteller, BS’er , shark on a pool table, bar-room dancer, bellowed a mean harmonica and plucked guitar pretty good.

He would give the shirt off his back to anybody. Unless, you got him PO’d. Then, he was one Yosemite Sam, beer drinkin’, smokin’, pistol shooting, fists flying, rooten-tooten SOB!

We know that his soul has gone up to Heaven, because the devil is afraid of him taking over the place.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice (Morris) Scott and Lorraine (Larson, Scott) Shermont, and his brother Gene Scott, his sister Norma Jean Scott and sister-in-law Joy A. Scott.

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Peggy) Ann (Cook, Hoffman) Scott, five children; two step-daughters; 18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; three brothers (Lloyd Scott, Darryl Scott, Leon Scott) and two sisters (DeeAnn Bratlien, Kristi Gardner), six sisters-in-law (Karen Scott, Sharon Scott, Nancy King, Barbara Belanga, Marjorie Hutchins, Janet Cavers), and three brothers-in-law (best friend Ken King, Maynard Bratlien, Gordie Cavers).

He is cherished in our memories and still loved every day.

A memorial service will be held on a yet to be determined date.
