Libby tennis sweeps season opener over Bigfork

The Libby Loggers tennis team played its first matches of the season Monday at Rich Thompson Memorial Terrace in Libby.

The teams' first two matches against Polson and Hamilton, in Polson, on March 22, were rescheduled.

The Loggers scored a 6-1 win over Bigfork in the boys match while the girls squad won, 4-3.

"It was just nice to finally get out and play!" Libby head coach Kyle Hannah said. "All the kids played extremely well for their first time out. Ryan Beagle is looking strong and has added different shots to his repertoire. There are many new doubles teams that played and gelled well together. We have a nice returning cast that is mending well with some first year players. We have lots to work on, but we have a great group of kids." 

At No. 1 singles, Ryan Beagle was a straight-set winner over Bigfork’s Cole Carlson, 6-0, 6-0.

Tyler Andersen took care of Andrew Kingery in short order, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3, Xavier Reatz was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kimball Richmond and at No. 4, Teague Thompson bested Juan Childs, 6-2, 6-0.

In the first doubles match, the team of Alderic Martineau and Dylan Warner rallied to beat Bigfork’s Dylan Porrevechio, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Libby’s No. 3 team of Jayden Ueland and Morgan Davis also rallied from a first-set loss to win its match. The No. 2 team of Eric Thompson and Dayton Johnson lost a hard-fought match, 6-4, 6-3, to Bigfork’s Andrew Wallen and Dane Carlson.

In the girls match, Libby’s doubles team led the way to a 4-3 win by sweeping all three matches.

At No. 1, Ellie Andreessen and Allie Thorstenson claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bigfork’s Anika Ranson and Amanda Leonard.

At No. 2, Elaina Covington and Kaitlyn Canary beat Bigfork’s Hazel Lowell and Maci Pickens, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 3, Savanah Lucas and Kayla Hoff were 6-2, 6-1 winners.

In the singles matches, No. 2 Maggie Fantozzi dropped the first set, 6-4, to Jade Sister before rallying for a 6-0, 6-3 win.

The other three singles matches saw losses by Libby, including Marissa Hollingsworth at No. 1, Riley Wolgamott at No. 3 and Bella Meyer at No. 4.

The Loggers return to action Thursday at Whitefish. Libby will host an invitational on April 19-20.
