Brian D. Sylvia

| April 5, 2024 7:00 AM

Brian D. Sylvia or “Sarge” as he preferred to be called, died on Oct. 20, 2023, at the age of 68 of natural causes.

Brian was born on April 7, 1955 in Providence, Rhode Island to Olive A. Dias and Alexander Sylvia. He was raised in the Providence area and had one brother. All of his family preceded him in death.

At age 18 he joined the United States Marine Corps. His service took him to Vietnam where he was a radio operator with the 1st Marine Division FMF. Brian was injured and honorably discharged in 1973.

Following his time in the Marine Corps, Brian became a commercial welder in Rhode Island specializing in stainless steel fabrication.

Brian enjoyed reading with a particular interest in anything military. He was a Star Trek fan and loved some of the classic movies. Brian made his way to Libby in 2001. He never lost his heavy New England

accent or attitude.  He freely shared his advice whether solicited or not.

Brian had a LOT of stories to tell.

He considered Kerri Jacob of  Pawtucket, Rhode Island his “daughter” and her children Jayden and Austin his “grandsons”  though they were not biologically his.

He always considered himself as someone who could “fix things” He created many home remedies for all kinds of aches and ailments and shared them with others. He loved Montana and loved Libby.

Rest in Peace “Sarge.”

A brief memorial service will be held at noon Friday, April 5, 2024 at Libby Assembly of God Church, 105 Collins Ave.
