The Libby Loggers are 2-0 after beating Polson, 35-26, Friday night.

The Loggers built a 35-7 lead in the second half before the Pirates (0-2) rallied in the fourth quarter.

The Loggers began to take control after an uneven first quarter. They forced a punt from inside the Polson 10 late in the first and a good return by Drake Wofford set them up at the Pirate 17.

After a 12-yard run by quarterback Tristan Andersen resulted in a first-and-goal, a fumbled exchange and a procedure penalty nearly nullified the good starting position, Andersen scrambled for 10 yards on second down and Jace DeShazer finished it with a 4-yard TD run. Isaac Lamere’s kick made it 7-0.

Libby’s defense soon it made it 14-0. After trading punts, the Pirates faced a second-and-1 at their 30 when linebacker Connor Benson tipped a pass, Ryan Beagle caught it in mid-air and raced into the end zone for a TD with 5:14 left in the half.

The lead went to 21 points early in the third quarter when senior Aidan Agre-Baun recovered the kickoff at the Polson 16. Three plays later, senior Trent Riddel scored on a 1-yard TD run and Lamere’s kick made it 21-0 with 11:13 left.

After trading fumbles, the Pirates had the ball back on their 20. But Goodman made two big plays on consecutive plays to force a punt.

The Loggers quickly moved to the Polson and Lamere caught the first of two touchdowns from Andersen. Lamere hauled in the 19-yard catch to the post for the TD and a 28-0 lead.

The Pirates answered with their first score with 4:57 left in the third, but the Loggers got the lead back to 28 points late in the quarter when Lamere caught a 24-yard TD from Andersen. Lamere’s kick made it 35-7.

The Pirates tried to rally with a blocked punt return for a score and two TD passes.

But Gaige Bache recovered an onside kick with 2:50 left to end any further Polson rally attempts.

The Loggers defense forced three turnovers and held Polson to just 13 yards rushing on 21 attempts.

The Loggers play at Ronan Friday night.
