Libby boys soccer opens season victorius
The Libby Loggers boys soccer team opened its season with a win last week in Hamilton.
The Loggers got the game-winning goal from Cody Watson to break a 1-1 tie.
According to head coach Joe Martineau, the Loggers maintained possession for the bulk of the game while playing a deep set 4-2-3-1, playing through the back and utilizing their back line to push the ball forward.
The Loggers scored first when Dylan Warner’s well-placed corner kick was headed in by Kale Hall.
Hamilton scored on a dropped ball to tie the game after a penalty was called during a tackle.
Watson’s game-winner ricocheted off a defender before landing in the net.
“Thanks to the solid play of the back line defending and stopping the ball, we were able to stop most of Hamilton’s progressive play,” Martineau said. “The balls that did get through were stopped by keeper Joaquin Canizares.”
The Loggers return to action Saturday, hosting Stevensville at 11 a.m. The Lady Loggers play at home at 4 p.m. Friday against Loyola and Stevensville at 1 p.m. Saturday.
