Lloyd Charles “Chuck” Evans
Lloyd Charles “Chuck” Evans, 80, passed away on Oct. 15, 2023, in Libby, Montana.
Chuck was born on June 3, 1943, to L. Lloyd and Alice Evans, and spent his first years in Wyoming near his mother’s birthplace. Most of Chuck’s second summer were spent in a fire lookout on Black Mountain where his parents were temporarily employed before moving to Missoula, Montana, where his dad began attending law school in 1944.
After finishing law school in 1946, Chuck’s father accepted a job offer in Polson, Montana, where Chuck and his sister Claire, who was born in Missoula in 1945, played by their home on the Flathead River. His brother Kelly was born in Polson in 1948.
In 1950, his parents had moved to a rural location south of Libby on Whiskey Hill. There, Chuck and his siblings enjoyed horses, donkeys and a variety of wild and domestic pets. Their life was one of exploration, both hiking and riding horses as far as they could reasonably go.
In 1961, Chuck graduated from Libby High School. He was an active student and played on the championship football team. He was also elected senior class president.
In the fall of 1961, Chuck attended Montana State University. Then in 1963, Chuck was selected by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to fulfill a mission for the church in France.
Chuck returned from his mission to pursue and complete his bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Montana where he did so in the spring of 1967.
In the fall of 1967, Chuck started law school at the University of Montana. He was elected president of the law school student body, then finished his law degree in 1970 and moved to Utah. He practiced law in Utah for four years, before moving back to Libby to live on Whiskey Hill and start his practice in Montana.
Chuck was a lawyer for the Libby, Troy and Eureka communities until his retirement in 2019. He served as City Attorney in both Libby and Troy and became a familiar and respected leader in the county.
After his retirement, Chuck continued his passion for farming his land on Whiskey Hill. Often, he could be seen on his tractor or walking his fields to bring them to the pristine condition he demanded of himself as the caretaker.
Chuck was a man of strong value and character and expected excellence of himself in all aspects of his life.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Alice, sister Claire and eldest brother Curt. Chuck is survived by his brother Kelly Evans of Lincoln City, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck requested no services be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kootenai Pets for Life in Libby. Arrangements were under the care of the Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby. Memories and condolences may be shared online by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
