There are a number of events planned in south Lincoln County Friday and Saturday to honor U.S. military veterans who served and sacrificed for our country.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Kootenai Valley Christian School will hold its annual program at the Libby Memorial Events Center.

There will be an informal ceremony recognizing U.S. military veterans past and present at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln County Veterans Memorial in Riverfront Park in Libby.

The national anthem will be sung by Libby High School senior Elaina Covington while “Taps” will be played by Libby High School senior Allison Beaty.

Anyone is welcome to attend and pay their respects to those who served and sacrificed for our country.

The Libby American Legion Post 97 on California Avenue is hosting a dinner and program beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.

It is open to all Legion members and guests as well as Ladies Auxiliary Unit members and guests.

The no-host cocktail hour is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the dinner and program at 6 p.m.

The Legion will be closed to the public during the event, but will reopen when the dinner is over.

In Troy, there will be a Veterans Day Assembly at 8:15 a.m. Friday in the high school auditorium.

A guest from the VFW is coming in to speak to high school students and there’ll be a slideshow of the community's veterans playing in the background. After, there will be a light breakfast served in the elementary school, as veterans are invited to eat with and speak to our younger students. All are welcome to attend.

On Saturday, the Silver Spur Restaurant is having a free dinner for veterans beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The dinner includes marinated and grilled pork chop with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, corn on the cob, dinner roll and a slice of scratch made carrot cake.

The dinner, one per customer, will be served while supplies last. Veterans must provide proof of their status.
