It may not have been the ending they sought, but the Troy Lady Trojans battled to the end Saturday afternoon against the Eureka Lady Lions.

Troy led 5-0 after three innings and 7-4 after five, but Eureka rallied to grab a 10-8 win. It was the second time Eureka beat Troy by two runs. In a home game earlier this season, the Lady Lions claimed a 11-9 win.

Troy’s strong start saw pitcher Elaine Folkerts retire the first nine batters she faced while the offense tallied five runs.

Audrianna Borgmann got things going for the Lady Trojans in their first at-bat with a single. She took second on a wild pitch before Leslie Gravier walked. Folkerts then ripped a double off the third base bag to score Borgmann.

Ellie Borgmann struck out swinging on a ball in the dirt, but she reached base when the catcher’s throw was too high to first. Gravier scored on the miscue. Kylie Cole grounded out to second with Folkerts scoring for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Trojans increased their lead to five in the third frame.

Ellie Borgmann lined a single to center and took second on a wild pitch. Hailey Dungan drew a walk and Cole’s double scored Borgmann. Dungan was thrown out trying to reach third base. Tana Grant and Addison Fisher each walked to load the bases.

Audrianna Borgmann singled to right, scoring Cole for a 5-0 lead. Eureka made a pitching change and got out of the inning.

In the fourth inning, Eureka scored four times to make it a one-run game.

The Lady Trojans answered with two runs in the fifth to make it 7-4. After loading the bases, Dungan and Cole walked to force in two runs.

Eureka scored four in the sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead before claiming the 10-8 win.

The Lady Trojans are scheduled to host a doubleheader Tuesday against Loyola. The first game begins at 3 p.m.
