Logger boys win county invitational

Buoyed by their depth, the Libby Loggers track and field team cruised to the championship of the annual Lincoln County track and field meet Thursday at Logger Stadium.

Libby scored 88 points to easily outscore Eureka (65) and Troy (21).

Libby sophomore Kasen Day won the 100 and 200 dashes and teammate Tristan Andersen won the long jump and high jump.

Logger Cy Stevenson marked 50-9.75 to win the shot put, Joel Goodman won the 400, Gabe Hollingsworth won the 3,200-meter run in 11:25.68, David Beck claimed the discus and Greysen Thompson triumphed in the triple jump.

The 4x100-meter relay team, including Mauro Vazquez-Otero, Stevenson, Day and Andersen, was also a winner. The 4x400 relay team of Goodman, Thompson, Rowen Sherbo and Hollingsworth placed second.

The Loggers also displayed good depth with Vazquez-Otero taking second in the 100 and 200, Hollingsworth was third in the 3,200, Casey Rusdal was fourth in the 3,200, Goodman was second in the shot put while Beck was fourth and Gaige Bache was fifth.

In the discus, Bache added a third-place finish while Andersen was second in the javelin followed by Bache. Thompson took second in the high jump and Vazquez-Otero was fourth in the high jump.

In the pole vault, Hollingsworth was second and Thompson took third. In the long jump, Day was second and Vazquez-Otero took third. In the triple jump, Urijah Bache was fourth and Rusdal fifth.

Troy’s Nolan Morris swept the 800 and 1,600 and his 800 time of 2:05.80 ranks No. 6 in Class B.

Junior Marcus Hermes was second in the 800 while Gavin Bender was a runner-up in the 110 hurdles.

In the field events, Jacob Gromley was second in the discus and third in the shot put.

In the girls events, Eureka scored 94 points to top Libby (52) and Troy (19).

Libby’s Aurora Smith swept the hurdles and won the 100-meter dash. Teammate Rylee Boltz won the 200 and 400 and was second in the 100.

Boltz won the 400 in 60.46 seconds, the fifth-best time in Class A. Smith’s winning time of 50.46 in the 300 wasn’t her best this spring, but good enough for her third win in five starts.

Bergen Fortner also won the long and triple jumps for the Loggers while adding second in the 100 hurdles and thirds in the 200 dash and 300 hurdles. Annika Benner was second in the 1,600 and 3,200. She added a fourth in the pole vault.

Troy got a majority of points from Jaylee Meyers, who won the 1,600 and 3,200. Meyers was fifth in the javelin.

Cortenie Rogers was third in the javelin, long and triple jumps.

Sarah Rogers was third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.

According to athletic.net, Boltz's season-best high jump of 5 feet, 2 inches is tied with two other jumpers for the best mark in Class A.

For Stevenson, his season-best shot put of 51 feet, 3.5 inches ranks fifth overall in the state.

Libby is set to compete Tuesday in the Top 8 Northwest ABC meet in Eureka.

Troy is back in action on May 6 at the KLH Meet in Missoula.
