U.S. 2 road work nearing completion

| June 27, 2023 7:00 AM

The Montana Department of Transportation and Hi-Tech Rockfall are nearing completion on the U.S. 2 slope stability project.

Crews have been working to enhance roadway safety features by repairing the existing rockfall structure and removing potentially hazardous and unstable rock material.

The week of June 26, drivers can expect to see final clean-up work, including removing temporary barriers on the rock wall.

Traffic control will remain in place throughout the week. The project will be substantially complete by Friday, June 30.

Drivers may notice crew members on the shoulders of the roadway in early July, but traffic will not be impacted.

For more details and a map of the project area, please visit the project webpage linked here: https://mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/us2slopestability/

While traffic control is present, travelers should anticipate delays of 15 to 25 minutes through the project area. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with lane closures present 24/7 until the project is complete.

Officials are also urging drivers to drive sober.

Law enforcement agencies and the Montana Highway Patrol will be increasing patrols to watch for and stop impaired drivers on Montana’s roadways. Before you make plans to celebrate Fourth of July, plan for safe, sober transportation and insist your friends and family do the same.

Remember to always buckle up before you go, as using your seat belt is your best defense against serious injury or death in the event you’re in a crash.
