Two Libby residents were injured in a fatal, three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in the McGregor Lake area.

According to a report by Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Fredenberg, a 77-year Polson man driving a BMW 325I was turning from Violet Bay Drive on to U.S. 2 at about 2:47 p.m. when he lost control for an unknown reason and struck an eastbound Itasca motorhome driven by a 61-year-old Des Plaines, Illinois, man.

The motorhome then veered and overturned on the north side of the highway. The BMW spun and was struck by a westbound Ford F350 driven by a 74-year-old Libby man.

The driver of the BMW was flown by Logan Health and later pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The Libby man and a passenger in the Ford, a 74-year-old woman from Libby, were injured and taken to Logan Health. They were both wearing seat belts.

The 61-year-old Illinois man and a passenger, a 60-year-old woman from Des Plaines, were not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.

According to Tpr. Fredenberg, speed, alcohol nor drugs were cited as reasons for the crash.
