Mission Valley Mariners sweep Loggers in doubleheader

The Libby Loggers Legion baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Mission Valley Mariners Saturday at Lee Gehring Field.

In the first game, the Loggers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Mariners scored all four of their runs in the top of the second.

The Loggers tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit, but that was the end of the scoring.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Mariners jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. They led 6-0 before the Loggers rallied, scoring two runs in the third and three in the fourth to cut the lead to one run, 6-5.

But Mission scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take control before claiming a 19-10 win.

The Loggers return to action Thursday on the road at the Glacier Twins. The first game of a doubleheader is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Libby will be at home Saturday for a doubleheader with the Cranbrook Bandits. The first game begins at 1 p.m. Both games will be seven inning contests.

The Big Bucks Tournament is set for June 22-25.
