Cielak brothers win Memorial title

Brothers Jonny and Louis Cielak teamed up the win the 2023 Memorial tournament at Cabinet View Golf Course last weekend.

They shot a remarkable 57 on Sunday and were minus-24 for the two-day scramble.

Lakers rally to top Loggers in Legion ball

The Libby Loggers led 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning Thursday at Kalispell, but the Lakers scored five runs to take a lead they never relinquished.

The Lakers (22-2 overall, 4-0 in the Western A) added four more in the sixth for an 11-4 win in American Legion baseball.

Trever Cockerill was a thorn in Libby's side. He doubled, tripled and scored four times. Cockerill’s RBI double started the rally in the fifth, scoring Brecken Walcheck to cut the gap to one. Cockerill then scored the tying run on a passed ball.

With two outs, the Lakers got four straight singles. Bryce Buckmaster drove in two with his, putting Kalispell up 6-4. Hunter Glidden followed with another RBI single.

Cockerill tripled to lead off the sixth and scored when the next three Lakers were hit by pitches. Two bases-loaded walks followed, before Walcheck’s sacrifice fly brought in Braden Capser with the game’s final run.

Starting pitcher Liam Benson struck out eight in four innings of work before allowing four runs in the fifth. Brody Gilmore and Dylan Buckner each hit RBI singles to cap the Logger outburst.

Libby fell to 1-14, 0-4 in league. The Loggers had six errors.

The Loggers were scheduled to host the Glacier Twins Monday evening.

Cabinet View Women's Golf League results

The Women’s League at Cabinet View Golf Course had a fun time playing Bingo, Bango, Bongo (one point for the closest to the pin and one point for first in the hole) on Wednesday, May 31.

Barb Mee was the winner in A Flight and Phyll Mackey for B Flight. Low Gross A Flight was Barb Mee and Donna Havens won B Flight. Low Net A Flight was Nancy Hull and B Flight was Connie Stantus.

All women golfers are encouraged to join for a fun time on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
