Libby City officials sound alarm on vandalism
The City of Libby is dealing with a recent spate of vandalism.
According to City Administrator Sam Sikes, the bathrooms at Riverfront Park were the site of vandalism and fires for the second time this year.
"This is disappointing to say the least," Sikes said. "We are constantly having issues with the old haul bridge safety railings also. For some reason, people keep pulling at the guards and loosening them which causes the city to have to make repairs. The action of loosening the rails creates a liability for the city by producing a safety hazard for the users."
Sikes said city work crews removed some platforms from under the bridge that were attracting people to go through the fence on the bridge.
Sikes said if anyone sees vandalism happening, they should contact law enforcement immediately.
Libby's Lee Gehring Field was the site of a extreme amount of vandalism four years ago when the concession stand was targeted, causing thousands of dollars in damages.
Cabinet View Golf Course and the McCormick School were the sites of separate incidents of vandalism in the summer of 2022.
Two men from Libby were prosecuted by the Lincoln County Attorney's Office for the vandalism at the golf course that caused more than $10,000 in damages.
Local residents have also shared problems on social media about thefts of flowers occurring at the Libby Cemetery.
