Roadwork continues on U.S. 2 near Kootenai Falls between Libby and Troy.

According to a press release from the Montana Department of Transportation, crews anticipate wrapping up work in early June to prevent major delays during peak tourism season.

In partnership with Hi-Tech Rockfall, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) continues to finish up ditch clearing and install rockfall mitigation structures along U.S. 2.

Drivers will continue to be directed to one lane via traffic signals through the work zone.

Travelers should anticipate 15 to 25 minutes of delays through the project area. Delays, such as morning and evening commutes, may be more extensive during peak travel times.

Crews are doing everything possible to move drivers through as swiftly as possible. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with lane closures present 24 hours a day, seven days a week until the project is fully complete.

Drivers are asked to slow down throughout the area and watch for drivers, crew members, equipment and signs. Slow down when approaching work zones and follow posted speed limits. Leave adequate braking room between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. Drivers are also asked to keep their cool, pay attention and plan for delays.

Officials also advise that speeding and other reckless driving behaviors create unsafe conditions for you and others traveling Montana’s roads.

Even if you are abiding by posted speed limits, you can still be traveling too fast for safety – particularly in inclement weather, low/no light conditions, or around emergency response or work zone sites. One simple and effective way to protect all roadway users is to lower your speed when driving a motor vehicle.
