State to test AMBER Alert system Jan. 13

| January 11, 2023 7:00 AM

The Montana Department of Justice will issue the following test of the Montana AMBER Alert system statewide on Friday, Jan. 13, which is National AMBER Alert Day.

To help improve the system, Montanans who don't receive the test alert on their cell phone should notify DOJ online here: https://dojmt.gov/ambertest/.

AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response and was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered.

In Montana, the criteria for issuing an AMBER alert is that the missing child is age 17 years or younger, or has a proven mental or physical disability. The law enforcement agency believes the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
