Libby woman accused of stealing mail
A Libby woman is faced with a federal criminal charge after she was accused of stealing mail from customers in the Troy area.
Haley Rushel Hickman, 23, of Libby, is charged with one felony count of theft of mail. If convicted of the most serious crime, Hickman faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
Hickman pleaded not guilty on Nov. 22 in Missoula before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen L. DeSoto.
Charging documents indicate the thefts occurred between Aug. 1 and Sept. 6. The documents included letters, post cards and packages addressed to U.S. Postal Service customers in Troy.
Hickman was released pending further proceedings. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case.
Federal Public Defender Michael Donahoe is representing Hickman while Karla E. Painter is the prosecutor.
A jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 12, 2024 in Missoula before Judge Dana L. Christensen.
