Florence Ethel Slater passed away Nov. 18, 2023, at her home in Libby, Montana of natural causes.

She was born on May 11, 1942, to Ethel Fay (Black) Willimott and Thomas William Willimott in Glendale, California. With her biological father deceased, she was raised by her father and mother, Emmett and Fay Lisle.

Florence was married once to Gerald D. Slater, also of Libby, Montana at the time of their union. She had one son, Lee Stuart Slater. Florence was an independent person who loved and cared for animals. She was a graduate of Libby High School, class of 1960, and was in the top of her class.

Florence excelled academically at the University of Montana where she studied psychology. She also worked at the University Center on the UM campus for many years.

After living in Seattle, Washington, Missoula and Bozeman, Florence returned to Libby in 1980 to be closer to her family. She worked for the St. Regis lumber mill (pulling on the plywood plant green chain) and eventually retired from the Forest Service (Kootenai National Forest Office).

Florence enjoyed her own home, taking walks and visiting on the phone.

Florence is preceded in death by her sister Toni Lynn Lisle and her parents Ethel Fay Lisle and Emmett James Lisle.

She is survived by her son, numerous brothers and sisters and their families. Local arrangements were under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby.
