Libby girls tennis opens season with win over Polson

The Libby Logger tennis teams kicked off the spring sports season with a split at Polson on Thursday, March 30.

The girls squad received strong performances from their doubles teams as they claimed a 4-3 win over the hosts.

After dropping the first three singles matches, Libby began its winning rally at No. 4 singles when Marissa Hollingsworth rolled over Polson’s Mary Agliano, 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Libby’s Bella Covington and Macey Halvorson won a hard-fought match over Lauren Collinge and Addison Carlson, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 2, the duo of Ellie Andreessen and Allie Thorstenson rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Josie Henriksen and Tia Mercer.

At No. 3, the Lady Loggers tandem of Savanah Lucas and Kayla Hoff completed the comeback with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Fyrrah Rains and Vivian Grainey.

In the first three singles matches, Elaina Covington dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Karli Owen at No. 1, Kaitlyn Canary fell 6-3, 6-1 to Lucy Violett and Maggie Fantozzi lost 6-1, 6-0 to Hope Morrison.

In the boys match, Polson won 6-1.

Libby’s No. 4 singles player, Ayden Montgomery, claimed the only win for the Loggers as he battled past Polson’s Casey Trosper, 4-6, 6-1 and 10-1.

In the other singles matches, No. 1 Ryan Beagle fell 6-2, 6-3 to Torrin Ellis. At No. 2, Tyler Andersen dropped a three-setter to Owen McClewee, 0-6, 6-2, 2-10. Thomas Roark fell at No. 3 to Polson’s Ruger Ellis, 6-2, 7-5.

Libby’s three doubles team each fell in straight sets. No. 1 included Trevor Collins and Alderic Martineau while No. 2 featured Zach Fantozzi and Cylis Goddard. No. 3 included Kyle Svendsbye and Morgan Davis.

Libby is scheduled to host Columbia Falls at No. 4 today.
