Trotters buck Lady Trojans 13-3
Softball 101. Put the bat on the ball, put the ball in play, then run in the right direction. You never know what’s going to happen next.
The Troy Lady Trojans and the visiting Plains Trotters did just that.
Both starting pitchers combined for four strikeouts, three walks, two hit batters and one hit pitcher.
Balls were flying or rolling all over the field last Saturday. Just happens that a few more landed in the right place for the Trotters.
There was also some leather flashed in the field and it seemed like every other Trotter ball was hit their way. Lady Trojan third baseman Lacy Gravier and sister shortstop Leslie Gravier gobbled up every ball in sight.
In a contest that was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run rule, the Plains Trotters defeated the Troy Lady Trojans 13-3.
A two-run fence clearer gave the Trotters an early 2-0 lead.
With the score 6-0, the second inning saw Troy pitcher Elaine Folkerts get smacked by a line drive. Folkerts was able to shake it off and finish the rest of the game.
With the score 10-0, the fourth inning saw Folkerts force three Trotter groundouts, retiring the side in order.
The Lady Trojans got on the scoreboard in their half of the fourth. Left fielder Casey Kanzler’s RBI single along with center fielder Jaylee Leighty’s RBI double cut the lead to 10-2.
The Trotters would respond in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs to stretch their lead to 13-2.
Needing two runs to continue the game, Alexi Garcia’s two out single brought in a run.
A following groundout and the game was over. Final score, Trotters 13, Lady Trojans 3.
The Lady Trojans finish their regular season Tuesday, May 10 at 4 p.m. They will be hosting the Thompson Falls Lady Bluehawks.
