McNew asks city council to look at playground equipment

City Councilor Zach McNew laid out early plans to take a look at playground equipment citywide on March 7.

He offered to spearhead the effort during the general comments section of a regularly scheduled city council meeting. Mayor Peggy Williams listed improving the play equipment at Fireman’s Park, in particular, as one of her goals when she campaigned for office in 2021.

“I would like to pursue looking at our parks and playground equipment and the opportunities we may have to upgrade that,” he said.

McNew’s announcment quickly segued into a conversation about how to get items into Libby City Council’s various committees.

“The best way to get it into committee and onto agenda is: If somebody brings you a problem, you bring it up and the council decides, do we want to look at that and then appoints it to a committee,” Williams said. “[McNew] is requesting the parks committee to look at playground equipment.”

And that led City Councilor Brian Zimmerman, who serves as council president, to offer once again to change up committee assignments. He pointed out that the council added two new faces — Melissa Berke and McNew — last year.

“If anybody wants to change committees or somebody wants to chair a committee and do something that way, please let me know,” he said. “I was going to revisit our list and everything from the New Year here and see if we want to make any changes here or not.”
