Thompson Contracting Inc. awarded Angel Island Bridge project
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners signed off on Thompson Contracting Inc.’s bid for the Angel Island Bridge rebuilding project Jan. 12.
The local firm’s $346,336 bid came in well below the two other proposals when commissioners opened up the documents earlier this month. Owing to the difference in estimated price tags, they took engineer Mike Fraser up on his offer to run through the numbers a second time.
Still, County Commissioner Jerry Bennett (D-2) expressed confidence in the company’s estimates at the time.
Last week, Fraser told the trio of commissioners his recommendation was to go with Thompson Contracting. He cited the cost of transporting equipment to the project location as a major factor in the other firms’ outsized bids.
“Both those companies had a lot of money in mobilization, reflecting their distance from the site,” Fraser said.
The vote to approve the bid was unanimous.
Officials hope to see the project, which will see the existing bridge on Angel Island Road replaced, completed in time for summer traffic.
