“It wasn’t pretty,” quipped Troy basketball coach Justin Young. “But the kids were pretty happy afterward.

Young was referring to the Trojans’ 40-30 win over the Noxon Red Devils on Feb. 11 at home. Troy’s Michael Foote scored all seven of his squad’s points in the first quarter. Noxon, meanwhile, managed only three.

In the second quarter, Troy relied on Trevor Grant to take over the scoring load. Grant scored five of the Trojans 10 points of the quarter.

After netting only three points in the opening quarter, the Red Devils hit 11 in the second. At the half, Troy led 17-14.

Foote reemerged as a dominant force in the third quarter. He scored seven more points. But Noxon hung tight. Heading into the final quarter of play, Troy led 26-22.

The fourth quarter saw the Trojans go on a scoring run that stretched Troy’s lead to 10 points. Noxon immediately countered and cut the deficit down to three.

Tyler Muntz’s two free throws and Foote’s three-pointer closed the door on the Red Devils, though. Troy rebuilt their 10-point advantage, which they kept until the final buzzer.

“I was happy for the kids,” Young said. “It was senior night, their last home game.”

Foote ended the game with 17 points while Grant came away with eight. Paxton Fisher ended the night with seven.

“It was a team win with seniors Tyler Muntz and Michael Foote stepping up at the end,” Young said.
