The Troy Lady Trojans started well in their season opener against Noxon, but the Lady Red Devils finished the game with a 42-32 win.

Foul trouble plagued Troy and helped Noxon get many opportunities at the free throw line. The Lady Red Devils were in the one-and-one bonus before the midway point of the second quarter and in the double bonus for the last 3:41 of the first half.

Elaine Folkerts and Isabelle Tunison helped Troy take a 13-11 lead after one quarter. The Lady Trojan’s largest lead was 13-7 with 1:59 left, but Noxon started its rally.

The Lady Red Devils scored the final four points of the first and outscored Troy 11-4 in the second to take a 22-17 halftime lead. The lead could’ve been more for Noxon, but it hit just three of eight shots from the line.

Troy opened the third with a 3-pointer by Brooklyn Reid to cut the lead to 22-20 with 5:42 left. But Noxon used a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take control.

The Lady Trojans got baskets from Cortenie Rogers and Folkerts to get the deficit under 10 at the end of three quarters.

A Troy 6-2 mini-run made it 35-30 as Folkerts, Rogers and Autumn Fisher scored to make it a game at the 3:25 mark of the fourth quarter.

But Noxon freshman Callie Cano’s 3-pointer with 2:54 left dashed Troy’s hopes.

The Lady Trojans (0-1) have a busy week, playing at Mission today, hosting Thompson Falls on Thursday and finishing at Plains Saturday.
