Libby Invite: Track team shines in bad weather
Rain, hail and a smattering of snow made for harsh conditions during the April 9 Libby Invitational track meet.
Six teams from both class A and B schools attended. With the recent cancelation of the Bigfork Invitational, a number of teams in Libby competed for the first time of the season.
Despite the weather, times and distances were near the top of their respective classes, also attesting to the caliber of athletes attending the meet.
The Libby Invitational also offered competition in the junior varsity category.
Perhaps the top performance of the day was turned in by Browning’s Jeremy Bockus, who clocked an 800-meter time of 1:59.
Junior Rylee Boltz earned a first place long-jump of 15 feet, 5-1/4 inches, also footing a second place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 63.11 seconds.
Junior Aurora Smith placed first in 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.33 seconds, placing third in 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.96 seconds.
Freshman Bergen Fortner placed second in 300-meter hurdles and second on 110-meter hurdles.
Freshman Autumn Fisher placed third in the 400-meter, and junior Izzy Tunison earned a third place finish in the long-jump.
In varsity boys track and field, senior T.J. Andersen finished first in the high jump with a 6-foot jump. Andersen also took second in the triple jump and second in discus.
Senior Dawson Rose placed first in the pole vault with a 12-foot vault.
Junior Cy Stevenson placed first in the shot put with a 46-foot, 3-inch throw, and third in the 200-meter with a time of 24.52 seconds.
