Cold weather and winds closed down a few sports venues last week. Not so in Libby: The Lady Loggers softball team kicked off conference play on April 12 hosting Ronan at Remp Field.

With errors plaguing both teams in the game, Libby cleared a 9-3 lead over Ronan after five innings. The Maidens would not be deterred, however.

A big sixth inning for Ronan and a two-out home run in the seventh tied up the score 11-11.

Two batters into the seventh inning, Libby ultimately won 12-11 over Ronan.

With Taylor Munro on the mound, the Lady Loggers jumped to an early lead in the game.

Courtney Bensen doubled and scored on a Paislee MacDonald single. Munro’s double knocked in MacDonald, and Libby led 2-0 after the first.

Two Lady Logger errors in the third inning gave the Maidens their first run of the game.

Ronan then scored two runs in the fourth to close Libby’s lead to 4-3.

The Lady Loggers would retaliate in their half of the fourth inning before advancing 9-3 by the close of the fifth.

As the evening grew colder, Ronan’s bats started to sizzle, and three consecutive doubles scored two runs.

With MacDonald taking over the mound for Munro, the Maidens were able to push four more runs across the plate.

But the Lady Loggers didn’t flinch. A Munro single to left field in the sixth inning brought in a run, and Aleesha Bradeen’s single sent another run home for a 11-9 Libby lead to close the sixth.

Entering the seventh inning, the Maidens were not ready to get on a warm bus, yet. With two outs, a two-run blastoff by Ronan again tied the game, 11-11.

With one Lady Logger reaching first on a an error, and then stealing second, an infield squib and errant throw drove home the final Libby run for the 12-11 Lady Logger victory.

Libby is 1-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall on the season.
