Senior commodities distribution set for April
Local senior commodities packages will be distributed from 10 a.m. until noon on April 14 at VFW Post 1548 in Libby.
For the U.S. Department of Agriculture program, recipients must be Libby residents aged 60 years or older who meet current income requirements.
Recipients namely must live at or below 130 percent of poverty level, meaning those earning $1,395 monthly or less for individuals or $1,887 monthly or less for couples, according to Montana's Department of Public Health and Human Services.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program provides a 30-pound box of food each month to qualified residents, according to the department.
Statewide, about 7,000 recipients are served by the program, the vast majority being older adults; but the program also serves Women, Infant and Children, WIC, families with children aged 5 to 6 years old, according to the DPHSS.
VFW Post 1548 in Libby is located at 114 West Second St. The food distribution program is not a veteran's program.
