The Troy Trojans opened their 2022 track season March 26 competing in the Bonners Ferry Invitational.

Thirteen teams from three states — Montana, Idaho and Washington — got together on a day that Troy head coach Neil Newton described as “perfect.”

“You never know what you’ll get this time of year,” Newton said.

Junior Trevor SPXXXSP posted an 800 meter time of 2:08, placing sixth and tying a personal best for the event.

“We’re really pleased with that time,” Newton said. “He’s way ahead of early-season expectations.”

Junior Izzy Tunison, who joined the team this year, posted a 14-foot, 9-inch long jump to place fourth in the event.

A pair of freshmen began their track careers in fine fashion. Autumn Fishers completed the 400 meter with a time of 1:08, placing fifth, while Cody Todd leaped 18 feet, 5 inches for sixth place in the long jump.

Troy track now headed east Saturday to compete in the Bigfork Invitational.
