Brian Zimmerman succeeded Mayor Peggy Williams as president of the Libby City Council on Sept. 20.

Zimmerman enjoyed unanimous support for the position from his fellow city councilors. City Councilor Hugh Taylor nominated him for the job with colleague Rob Dufficy offering a second.

Williams held the job until taking over for former Mayor Brent Teske after he ascended to the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners in July. Traditionally, the council president position goes to the senior most member of the panel. Zimmerman was first elected in 2015.

“Congratulations, Mr. Zimmerman,” said Williams.

Zimmerman’s first official duty was to help reshuffle committee assignments. He told his colleagues he would contact each in turn before making any changes.
