Georgia Lee Woody Plaas, 73
Georgia Lee Woody Plaas of Libby passed away June 30, 2020, in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico after an extended period of declining health. She was 73.
Georgia was born May 16, 1947, in Butte to George and Ardith Woody. She was raised and educated in Butte, graduating from Butte High School, class of 1965.
After graduation, she worked at various local restaurants. During this time, she met Patrick Davidson. In 1967, they were married. They had one child, a daughter, Laveria. In 1971, they divorced and went their separate ways.
Georgia continued working in the Butte restaurant industry for the next few years. Her favorite was the Pekin Noodle House, located in Butte’s historic district. It is the oldest continuously operating Chinese restaurant in the United States.
Georgia stayed in Butte until she met and married John Johnson in 1974. In the summer of 1975 they moved to Libby, where John worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the dam project. In 1978, Georgia went to work for the Antlers, a very popular restaurant and club located on U.S. Highway 2. John and Georgia divorced in 1979.
That same year Georgia began a career with the U.S. Forest Service at Sylvanite in the Yaak Area. She worked at Sylvanite until it closed and she was transferred to the Troy Ranger Station.
In 1986, she met and married the love of her life, Paul Plaas. They lived in Libby for several years, eventually moving to Troy in 1994 to be closer to Georgia’s work. Paul became ill and passed away in 2002.
During the following months she became friends with her neighbor, Jay Olsen. They had many things in common and after her retirement from the Forest Service in 2007 they spent time traveling and visiting family and friends. They had many wonderful years together before Jay passed in 2018.
As time passed, Georgia’s health had deteriorated and she was living at the Libby Care Center. In 2019, she relocated to beautiful Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, where she spent the last months of her life.
Georgia was artistic and enjoyed painting. She loved to read and going to sleep with a good book. Teaching her daughter to crochet and make delicious jams and jellies was very important to her. She loved her grandsons and spending time with them was the highlight of her day. She was a sweet and kind soul who loved her family and friends. She is greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George H. and Ardith Arlee Woody; her cousin, Ellie Scow; and her husband, Paul Plass.
Georgia is survived by her daughter, Laveria, and two grandsons, Kyle and Ethan.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., May 14, 2021, at the Libby City Cemetery, followed by a memorial gathering of family and friends at The Shed Restaurant & Bar, on U.S. Highway 2.
