A public hearing scheduled for a proposed affordable housing project on Commerce Way has been moved to next month, Libby officials say.

American Covenant Senior Housing Foundation, in cooperation with the Community Action Partnership of Northwest Montana, revealed plans for 24 units of affordable housing in Libby earlier this month. Representatives of both organizations announced the project at a Libby City Council meeting as part of the process to secure tax credits.

At the time, officials arranged to present the plans to residents in more detail at a July 19 public hearing. On the aforementioned date, City Councilor President Peggy Williams, who presided over the meeting in Mayor Brent Teske’s absence, announced the hearing would instead be held Aug. 23.

“It’s not a normal council Monday, but that is when they will be able to have that meeting,” she said.

The project would see 10 two-bedroom and 14 one-bedroom units go up in 12 duplex units on a 4.1-acre lot owned by Community Action Partnership. Qualified residents — those making between 40 and 50 percent of the area median income — could pay between $450 and $669 in rent once the development opens.
