Fire crews have contained a fire near the Callahan Creek not far from Troy, but officials say they are keeping an eye on the area.

The blaze sprung up in an area that saw a prescribed burn weeks earlier in April, and eventually grew to three acres. Given the hot and dry weather, officials were monitoring the site when the fire rekindled earlier in the week.

Crews remain on scene, said Dan Rose, forest fire management officer with the Kootenai National Forest, but the situation has improved.

“They’re feeling good about where it’s at,” he said. “They’re not seeing any more smoke on it. We still have people out there and still have hose on it. But we feel like it’s in good shape.”
