Julie Oldham, 61

Julie Oldham, 61, died in Spokane, Wash., on Nov. 27 after a multi-year battle against cancer. She was born in Libby on Aug. 8, 1960, to George and Eva Oldham. Julie graduated from Libby Senior High School in 1978.

Julie lived her life for Jesus and had a heartfelt compassion for people that she lived out daily. Julie truly had a gift for developing lasting connections with people. She gave genuine encouragement to those who dealt with life’s sufferings and difficulties. Julie had her own sufferings, but still brought much happiness and joy to others. In recent years she cared lovingly for mom when she was sick. Her devotion and care for mom was greatly appreciated.

She graduated with degrees in education and French from Eastern Washington University in 1983. Thirty years later, she returned to college at the University of Montana and through perseverance and discipline earned a degree in accounting.

While in high school, she was an exchange student in Turkey. She lived in Germany, France and other countries. She spoke five languages and had a keen understanding of world history and how history affected various cultures. Her curiosity inspired her to be an avid reader of current events, biographies, history and Bible studies.

She was anointed the family historian, as she knew the birthdays and wedding dates of multiple family members and relatives across generations. Julie enjoyed family time and “retelling” family stories and the “remember when” with her friends. She had an easy smile and sense of humor that spanned across all ages. Her genuine interest in the lives and wellbeing of others always shined through.

Upon returning to the states, she lived in the Seattle area, Missoula, Libby and Spokane. She worked at Microsoft and other tech companies during her career. In addition, she worked at an attorney’s office, handling the accounting and administrative responsibilities with amazing detail.

Julie had various health problems that made life challenging. Her faith gave her resilience to overcome challenges and serve as a Godly example for others. In her cancer journey, she had a miraculous healing several years ago. With cancer on the majority of her liver, she was provided with two chemo treatments of the recommended 10 treatments, given daily IV nutrients plus consistent and steady prayers from many people. After that, the medical report showed a clear liver scan and it was noted by a well-respected liver specialist that this was beyond medical expectations. She gave all credit to the Lord for the miraculous healing.

The special care that her sister Lindy (Dave) provided in Julie’s home gave her much comfort during the final months of her life. In addition, Hospice of Spokane provided outstanding professional and compassionate in-home care for Julie and family support.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eva Oldham. She is survived by her brother, Mike (Gina) of Bellevue, Wash.; brother, Pat (Patricia) of Wenatchee, Wash.; sister, Lindy Moeller (Dave) of Spokane, Wash.; and multiple nieces and nephews.
