HAMILTON, Mont. (AP) — A western Montana man has died of a gunshot wound in an apparent hunting accident, Ravalli County officials said.

The 21-year-old man from Conner was found dead near a trailhead southwest of Conner on Sunday, the final day of the state's general hunting season, the Ravalli Republic reports.

The sheriff's office is still investigating, but there is nothing to indicate the man's death was anything other than a tragic accident, Sheriff and Coroner Steve Holton said.

The man was hunting alone. His name is not being released until family members are notified.
